SO has anyone attempted to make thier own wine or succeeded at such? The history of winemaking since Roman times held such appeal that I resolved to try it myself. The ancient beverage made from honey known as meade also has great appeal. I am currently researching recipes and techniques from the most ancient to the most modern, and the socialogical impact of wine from its origins to the present.

I have tried to make my own wine once...the succeeding is the difficult part. It just tasted horrible. I would love to try and make mead though. The taste is unique and complex. I find it amusing that the only reason that I ever tried mead was because I learned about its' history. The impact of wine in a sociological and historical context have always intriged me as well. In ancient Rome there was a cult known as the cult of Bacus, the greek or roman god of wine and frivolity. These cult members were hunted down and executed for their practices. |
